Moving day, combined with TWO data plots!

We are the most efficient crew around!  Today was moving day from Dechenla lodge to Camp 222.   On the way to Camp 222 is the site called Hare Foot, so what is traditionally done is to pack everything up, drive in the quads to Hare Foot, and then Norm and Josh (our hosts, more on them later) drop us off.  They unload the quads with our stuff at Camp 222, come pick us back up, and then we head down.  However, we were told there was another 1/2 day site very close to Camp 222, so we were hoping to get both done today, especially since the weather was no rain!

So goodbye to our cabin at Dechenla Lodge:  the lodge, our hang out room upstairs in the lodge, our cabins, our view…

Euchre!

Last toothbrushing outside (cold, but always with a view)

So we packed our stuff, packed a lunch, and headed down to Hare Foot, where permafrost probing was to be done by us, while Steve downloaded the data from the weather station.

The road…no rain (but it certainIy had rained…)

Josh tells us about a Hawkowl

We arrived at Hare Foot at noon, and sadly this palsas is almost gone:  A,B,C and D lines to probe, but the A and B lines were completely gone (all now underwater).  But the new water features are pretty (they are just supposed to be frozen!!)

Lilly also found a caribou spine, along with some flesh still attached, just off the road here

We made quick work of this site, and were back on the road and headed to Camp 222 by 2:45pm

Camp 222:  so this is it:  a kitchen, dining area, and 3 rooms, which we all squished into.  As Lilly said, the walls were only decorative (you could hear people breathing in the next room!!).  The doors didn’t even have a latch, let alone a lock.  In addition, they kind of didn’t close all the way (like, ours sort of had to be shoved closed).  But who else will really be out there??

After quickly settling into our rooms, we ran over to the Beaver pond site to do some probing.  This site also went quickly, as the site was within walking distance to Camp 222, and then only 200m off the road.  I didn’t take a ton of pictures here, but I did notice, as we went lower in elevation, as well as further south, tons of this reindeer lichen (the white stuff)

Because we did another two for one today, we have one day left of work, but 2 extra days to do it.  Both days look like cold and rain, so we will figure it out tomorrow which day will be the last data collection day.
