For the map above, it shows the NWT part of the Canol Trail, and we are in the bottom left corner: we are 10 miles NE from milepost 222 (which is, by the way, where the prop plane dropped us off, and where Camp 222 is located). I know I showed the road before, but it takes the quad/atv 1.5 hours to travel those 10 miles…
On most Earthwatch trips, a day off in the middle of the expedition is often given, but because we did two for one the day before, we actually got TWO days off: Wednesday and Thursday. I personally blogged so I could get the previous posts out. But first, some laundry to be done!
Some others went on a hike on Wednesday, here are some amazing pictures:
Hike #1 to Fox Ridge:
Lilly looking at a fox den with footprints and scat
Lunchtime views (sorry, the panos tend to get shrunk to size…)
We also did some data inputting, with some fun caribou friends saying hello on the cameras!
On Thursday, our second off day, others went on a shorter hike, and Prisca and I stayed in the lodge (again, blogging), but from the lodge, through the binoculars, we saw caribou near Snow Fence – a bull, a calf, and its mother. So Prisca and I went down “the driveway” to take a look
Here is a picture of “the driveway” looking down to Canol Trail – it is just more gravel and rocks, but it’s all uphill back to the lodge
And Prisca and I were looking at the caribou, we met up with the hiking group, and we all observed
And then of course, more data inputting…
Tomorrow we head out to a site called bushwack, which everyone around us laughs when we mention it…it’s probably not going to be fun…
